ASM PTA Committees: Parents! The PTA Needs Your Help!

Here we list responsibilities of PTA committees. If you would like to chair a committee or  simply volunteer to help with a particular event, we would be delighted to have you help in any capacity. We can use the help and are eager to involve as many parents of ASM students as possible.

Activity Committees

Art Fair: Mr. Kolachik (Art teacher)

Arts in Education: Michelle Pells

Council Representative: Jana Fusco

Family Fun Night: Julie Smith

Field Day: Mr. Keenan (physical education teacher) and Parent Co-Chair (Vacancy). The parent co-chair will assist Chris Keenan in organizing the event, arranging for volunteers, and providing snacks for student-athletes.

Fifth Grade Activities: (Abbie Grossman/Patty Zakow). This critical committee arranges all activities for the 5th grade classes. The committee members set up refreshments for activities such as 5th Grade Dance Residency, D.A.R.E., and the Moving Up Ceremony. Other responsibilities include coordination and management of the 5th Grade End of Year Picnic and T-shirt order. We need volunteers also to bake cookies, supply juice and decorations, set up and clean up. If you have are interested in volunteering for any of these tasks or to co-chair the committee, please let us know.

Math, Science and Technology Expo: Mrs. Salem and Parent co-chair (Vacancy). This is a district-wide event held each spring. The committee publicizes the event within our school and provides information and necessary paperwork to student who wish to participate.

Membership Committee: Lisa Kaul and Anna de Cordova. This committee works to increase membership in the PTA.  Since members must rejoin every year, this committee is busy during the first few months of the school year. Volunteers on this committee will send out forms, collect funds, issue membership cards and record names of members.

Staff  Appreciation: Frances Allen, Beth Koustabekis, Melissa Palestro, Gillian Swift, and Daphne Uviller (Spector) to coordinate an event celebrating the work of our ASM teachers and staff

Fundraising Committees

Bake Sales: Erica WazewskiThis committee conducts bake sales throughout the year. The two largest events are on election days in November and May.

Book Fair: Jana Fusco/Melissa Palestro. ASM holds book fairs twice during the school year (fall and spring).

Box Tops/Labels for Education: Melissa Palestro/Beth Donohue/Beth Koustabekis

Fall and Spring Fundraisers: Elise Ale and Nyhisha Gibbs- A MAJOR fundraiser of the school year. The job includes gathering volunteers, stuffing envelopes, putting them in teacher’s mailboxes, collecting returned envelopes, compiling orders, handing out orders to students when they are delivered to the school (Cookie Dough Fundraiser and Scrips Gift Card Fundraiser).

Holiday Boutique/Craft Fair: (Need a Chair)

Mothers’ Day Plant Sale: Mrs. Cheryl Hodaba. Mother’s Day plan sale responsibilities include sending out notice of sale, gathering volunteers to work the tables, supervising third grade students who work the event, assist with set up and clean up each day of the sale.

Movie Nights: Stephanie Maxwell- Movie nights throughout the school year give families to share the school environment and have an inexpensive night out together. Volunteers send out fliers, announce the film, register the movie with MOVLI.com, collect incoming money, set up the gym for the movie, arrange for snacks to sell and clean up afterward.

Yearbook: Anne and Andy McCaffrey. We need volunteersto take photographs at various activities and events throughout the school year. All photographs may be submitted to the yearbook chairs listed above. Digital images may be attached to an email sent to asm-pta@optonline.net.

Arthur S. May Elementary School has the opportunity to earn value points through Price Chopper’s Tools for Schools.  We can use the value points to get free educational equipment for our students and teachers to use.

Here is what you need to do:

A+ School Rewards at Stop and Shop

After you register your card, each shopping trip at Stop&Shop using your Stop&Shop Card earns CASH for our school! Each month, the amount of CASH awarded will be updated on the Stop&Shop website. You can track the amount of points you earn for our school by checking your
grocery receipt and online when you create an account at

Our school will receive a check at the end of the program. The money can be used for any of our school’s educational needs. Remember, even if you registered your card last year, you must re-register this year for our school to receive credit. Attending to this simple process makes a HUGE difference to our school. We need your support.

Aside

We will be holding our annual PTA Membership Drive throughout the month of September. We hope to exceed last year’s membership to exceed and have more people involved in the decisions that affect our children. Don’t forget that anyone can join  the PTA. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles… all are welcome. (Dues is $7.00.)

There are many events that will need volunteers. Please consider signing up to be on a committee. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
